A coach uncovered what was right in front of me.
Since I'm an unmitigated side hustle hoarder, I have too many irons going.
At the same time, I have grand aspirations of pulling them all together. Somehow.
The path to social proof
If my desire is to help people build an online presence to serve their desires and to help them sleep better at night, I should have already done the thing that I want to help people with.
That's the crux of social proof: “Look at this. I know what it takes to do the thing.”
The problem is that with as many irons going as I have, progress on any one of them is slowed.
Social proof is a long way off, along with any credibility I expect to have.
The crystallizing advice from a Minimalist Coach
Jamie Northrup offered to chat about my newsletter as part of my participation in his Minimalist Hustler HQ community.
At the beginning of the chat he asked about my goals with the newsletter. I laughed, and we talked about implementation of the newsletter and other promotion topics. Most of the focus was on my currency collecting Facebook group, my YouTube channel, and my newsletter, as well as how they could work together.
Near the end of our session, my question was this: “Now to get back to my goals with the newsletter. I love talking with others about how they can make money doing what they're already doing for free. But I can't do it for myself really!”
Jamie suggested that I could focus on building up a product for the currency-collecting audience I have.
In doing that, he suggested that the lessons I learned along the way, and the experiences I gained, would provide the social proof I needed to convince others that I could do the same for them.
It's as if I had been spinning my wheels in a mud pit, and I finally hit a piece of solid ground to get some traction and some forward motion.
The key takeaway is to open your eyes. and envision things
Open your eyes to the assets that you own, the ones right in front of you.
Pick the area that has the most clarity. It could be the one you spend the most time on, because that's an area of enjoyment, and the one that gives the most satisfying feedback.
Then tie a vision for that area into the grand vision for your creator lifestyle.
Let's go with that!
