Keep a Stream of Content Flowing for Your Email Newsletter

The answer was staring at me for weeks, maybe months

Consistency is key for building a following online.

Consistent videos, consistent articles, consistent emails.

Building a brand by publishing a daily email newsletter all but requires the fuel of original content.

You may be able to recycle a post here and there, but do this too often and it can send the wrong message.

My own email newsletter has bouts of losing steam

This year, I've published 65 issues of my Solid Cash Tips newsletter.

Sixty-five is better than thirty, and it's better than none. I get that.

My consistency has been variable, though. I published 14 times in both June and July, but only five times since the beginning of August.

There were a few reasons for the inconsistent schedule, but the main reason was that I wasn't publishing on Medium as much.

I said to myself: “Well, nothing to send out tomorrow.”

That was too quick an answer, though.

I subscribe to a number of other writers' newsletters.

Matt Brady‘s Email FYI is one. He keeps a very regular publishing schedule with his newsletter. (With a name like Email FYI, he'd better, right? Haha)

What had been staring at me for some time is that Matt doesn't always share a link to one of his articles.

He will fairly often share a link to a tweet, or a LinkedIn post. Those are around 50 words, as opposed to an article which is 300 words or much more.

So I can post a short-form thingy, and share that.

Maybe an article wasn't going to happen, for whatever reason. (Not an excuse, just reality.)

But I can write a tip or condensed thoughts on LinkedIn, X, Substack, and so forth.

That's as much original content as an article is.

Simply by expanding my definition of original content, I'll have an easier time keeping pace with a regular email schedule.
