My bride of twenty-two years has written three books.
Each one is longer than the last. They’re works of historical fantasy set in 19th-century America.
She had decent sales of the first one on Amazon, but that was a number of years ago. The space has gotten more crowded. Sales had gotten so infrequent that she’s taken them off of Amazon until she gets an agent.
“Good book?”
Still, though, many nights I come into the bedroom to find her reading one of her books.
“Good book?” I ask her.
I know what the answer will be. “Yeah. Yeah, it is,” she tells me with a smile.
“Must be pretty accurate historically, right?”
Again, I know the answer. “Oh yeah, it’s really well-researched,” she smiles again.
(She researched the history and geography of the books’ settings a lot when writing them, and prides herself in that.)
I’m convinced she’ll never tire of re-reading her books.
Write first for yourself
She couldn’t find the stories she wanted in the (many) books that she’s read, so she wrote them herself.
And now, some of the characters that have befriended her since she was young are real, permanent.
And reading them brings her comfort.
Write first for yourself. Write what you love.
Then, perhaps, you’ll never be lonely again.
Thanks for reading!
