These two actions were a short masterclass in generosity.
Ken Blanchard, author and motivational speaker, teaches leaders to catch their people doing things right.
What we can do for people we supervise we can also do for each other, whether they're peers or otherwise.
In today's episode of catching people doing things right, I'd like to talk about Jamie Northrup, Minimalist Hustler.
It started with me signing up for his newsletter
I recently signed up for Jamie's newsletter.
Savvy marketer that he is, his onboarding process includes a one-time offer for his ebook, Passion to Passive Profits. (That's an affiliate link. More on that below.)
I took the one-time offer, and devoured the book. It distills a number of creator-based side hustles into a repeatable process that makes setting one up straightforward. Well worth what I paid.
1. Extending an offer
Very shortly after purchasing the book, Jamie authorized me to be an affiliate for all of his products.
I suppose this could be cast simply as sound business development. (Who better to talk up your products than people who have already purchased them?)
But the gesture of him authorizing me without me even asking was generous. It's something I'm definitely going to do as soon as I sell something.
It was generous for these reasons:
- It's an extension of trust. I hadn't reviewed his product yet.
- It led me to an avenue to make money that fits into his other offerings.
- It saved me the extra step of asking him and wondering if I was good enough to market his stuff. (Yes I was!)
2. Going above and beyond on a tweet reply
I also follow Jamie on X / Twitter.
I shared a tweet of his that was a progress update on his 12 Books in 12 Months challenge. He had themed two days for editing the book, then formatting it.
He replied that theming the days makes it easy to put the days into a larger schedule. When I asked for clarification on some wording in his reply, he just gave me his whole schedule.
In a tweet reply.
Day 1 – Ideation
~ Source
Day 2 – Outline
Day 3-14 – Writing
Day 15 – Editing
Day 16 – Formatting
Day 17 – Proofreading
Day 18 – Cover
Day 19 – Keyword/Category Research
Day 20 – Publishing
Could I take this schedule and do some damage with it?
Absolutely.
Could you, now that you've seen it?
Of course!
And Jamie just gave it to me.
This kind of thing comes back with dividends
Done correctly, this kind of generosity is the best form of advertising and marketing.
Will everyone respond like I did, with a flowery article of praise?
No, of course not.
But some will, and that's enough.
And it's something that can't be bought.
Thanks for reading!
