Feeling Overlooked? You Did It To Yourself.

Will you do what it takes to fix it?

It's July 1st today. The start of the second half of 2025.

It's a mini New Year, kind of like a half birthday.

As good a time as any to declare what's going to happen for the rest of the year.

The past six months on Medium have been brutal.

The first six months of the year, I published 42 articles.

Not great, but not nothing either.

For my efforts, I earned $3.95.

Not per article.

Not per month.

Total. 😳

An average of 9.5 cents per article.

What I'm feeling

I feel overlooked.

Like I have good things to say, but it's not having the impact I'd like.

Feelings are what they are, neither good nor bad.

So there's nothing inherently wrong with feeling overlooked.

What does matter, though, is how you act on it …

Feelings are a signal

Feelings signal something.

It may not be apparent immediately.

As I was writing this, though, I hit on why I felt overlooked:

The feeling was fruit.

Not good fruit, but bad fruit.

I felt overlooked because I had been overlooking others.

I've done this to myself.

The signs were there. I just see them clearly now.

I have followers. I follow people. I even have some subscribers.

Except for a handful of creators, though, I don't regularly read or engage with them.

I don't reach out with a thoughtful comment or a word of appreciation about what I learned near often enough.

It should come as no surprise to me when these things don't come my way.

People want to be seen. See them.

If you want to be reached out to, reach out.

If you want to impact others, be impacted by others.

If you want to be seen, see others.

There should be a call to action here.

Here's your call to action:

See someone.
